Guidelines

The following guidelines have been prepared to assist you in decisions relating to your child's health and school attendance. This will provide as healthy a school environment as possible for all children and staff. It is best to keep your child home and observe him/her for worsening symptoms if you are uncertain about sending him/her to school. It is recommended that your child stay home if he/she is too ill in the morning.

When you make the decision to keep your child home, please notify the school secretary or attendance line. Also, please state the nature of your child's illness.

Colds	Students need to remain home if he/she has the following: an excessive runny nose, excessive coughing, temperature at or above 100 F, or is too uncomfortable to function at school.
Chicken Pox	Student may return to school when all blisters are dried and crusted over. Notify school nurse if your child has chickenpox.
Diarrhea	A student is to remain at home if he/she has diarrhea 2 times in a day. Also, they will need to remain home until diarrhea subsides and no other signs of illness exist.
Ear Infections	Student does not need to stay home from school. Student should be evaluated by his/her physician if he/she complains of ear pain.
Eye Infections	Student cannot attend school if purulent eye drainage present. May return if eyes clear, treatment started, or cleared by MD. No exclusion for non-purulent drainage unless there is an outbreak.
Fever	If the fever is over 100.00, the student should remain home. He/she may return to school when fever free, without medication, for 24 hours.
Fractures and Surgeries	Parents need to contact the nurse when a child has a serious injury or surgery. Modifications to physical activity and mode of travel throughout the building need to be evaluated. Please provide written information from your physician as to your child's level of activity at school. State limitations and special needs.
School Injuries	The nurse or trained staff member will assess the injury and administer first aid. Moreover, the parents will also be notified as soon as possible by phone and/or note about the type of injury and status.
Head Lice	Student needs to stay home from school and be treated with shampoo or rinse as recommended by your doctor or pharmacy. Children may return to school when the hair is lice- free and show proof of treatment. Notify the school if your child has head lice.
Rashes	Student is to remain at home with any undiagnosed skin rash. Student may return to school when the rash disappears. Student may return to school with a doctor's note stating diagnosis and clearing him/her to return to school.
Strep Throat	Student needs to be treated with antibiotics for 24 hours and be without fever before returning to school.
Vomiting	The student needs to be free from vomiting for at least 24 hours before coming to school. A student may vomit x1 and remain in school if there are no other symptoms of illness present.

Required Immunizations for School - English / Spanish

Tdap Health Provider Form - English / Spanish

7th Grade Tdap Requirement:

All students entering, advancing, or transferring into 7th grade will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster immunization (called "Tdap"). This is to be done before entering school in the fall. This requirement can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine on or after the student's 7th birthday.

Students will be excluded from school if they do not have proof of a Tdap booster. Parents can bring their student's immunizations to the school Health Office at any time to have the records updated.

This Tdap school immunization law affects all students in public and private schools.

Important Notice:
Vaccination Law Update and Personal Beliefs Waiver

On June 30, 2015, Governor Brown signed a new vaccine Bill (SB277). The law will take effect on January 1, 2016. This new law requires that all children in California be fully vaccinated to attend public or private school. See the chart above for vaccinations required for preschool and grades TK/K - 12 school attendance.

The District is required to implement the new law and starting in 2016, SB277 will:

No longer permit immunization exemptions based on personal beliefs for children in child care and public and private schools;
Permit personal belief exemptions to be submitted by December 31, 2015. These will also remain valid until a pupil reaches kindergarten/transitional kindergarten or 7th grade (see attached waiver and information sheet);
- Waivers can be completed at your school office on or before December 18, the start of Winter Break
- Waivers may be completed by your health care practitioner licensed and/or credentialed in California. Such as: Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), Naturopathic doctor. These must be postmarked by December 31 and can be mailed to your school site.
Remove immunization requirements for:
- Students in home-based private schools
- Students enrolled in an independent study program who do not receive classroom-based instruction
- students with medical and personal beliefs exemptions from any new immunization requirement initiated by CDPH for attendance at school or child care
Allows for the enrollment of students who qualify**:
- For an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to access special education and related services (federal law and Section 56026 of the Education Code)
- As foster or and homeless youth (Section 48850 of the Education Code et seq.)
- As conditionally admitted pending full immunization within the time periods designated by regulation of the California Department of Public Health

**Students in the above categories will still need to provide immunization records to their schools before entry.

Actualización de la Ley de Inmunización y Exención de Creencias Personales

El 30 de junio de 2015, el gobernador Brown firmó una nueva propuesta de ley sobre las vacunas (SB277). La ley entrará en vigor el 1 de enero de 2016. Esta nueva ley requiere que todos los niños en California estén totalmente vacunados para asistir a una escuela pública o privada. Vea la gráfica arriba para las vacunas requeridas para asistir a la escuela en preescolar y TK/K a 12 grado.

El Distrito tiene la obligación de poner en práctica la nueva ley y a partir del 2016, SB277:

No permitirá exenciones de inmunización basadas en creencias personales para niños en guarderías y las escuelas públicas y privadas;
Se permitirán las exenciones por creencias personales presentadas a más tardar el 31 de diciembre de 2015, para permanecer validas hasta que el alumno esté en kindergarten transicional/kindergarten o 7 grado (vea la exención adjunta y la hoja de información);
- Las exenciones se deben llenar en la oficina escolar el día o antes del 18 de diciembre, al inicio de las vacaciones de invierno
- Las exenciones pueden ser llenados por su médico de la salud licenciado y/o acreditado en California: Doctor Médico (MD), Doctor de Medicina Osteopatía (DO), Enfermera Practicante (NP), Asistente del Médico (PA), Médico Naturista. Deben ser matasellados a más tardar el 31 de diciembre y se pueden enviar por correo a su escuela
Eliminar los requisitos de las vacunas para:
- Los alumnos en las escuelas privadas
- Los alumnos inscritos en un programa de estudio independiente quienes no recibe enseñanza en un salón de clases
- Los alumnos con exenciones médicas y de creencias personales de cualquier nuevo requisito para las vacunas iniciado por CDPH por asistir a una escuela o guardería
Permitirá la inscripción para los alumnos que califican**:
- Un Programa de Educación Individualizado (IEP) para tener acceso a la educación especial y servicios relacionados (la ley federal y la Sección 56026 del Código de Educación
- Jóvenes acogidos y sin hogar (Sección 48850 del Código de Educación et seq.)
- Admitido condicionalmente a la espera de las vacunas completas dentro de los plazos designados por la regulación del Departamento de Salud Pública de California

**Los alumnos en las categorías mencionadas anteriormente aún necesitarán proveerle a la escuela la cartilla de vacunación antes de ingresar a la escuela.
